So I figured it was probably time to post about this. About a month ago Josh got a new job. So far he's really liking it, and can really see a future (which he never saw at the last job). It's kind of a long story about how this job even came to be, and it's been an even longer process... but here we are!
The long story about the long process.
In October 2012, yes 2012, before I even knew I was pregnant with Audrey... my dad called me at work (yes, back when I had a paying job). A man he knows from company he used to work for called him up to chat about how my dad's current company does hiring. My dad asked him if they were going to be hiring and told him about Josh. He asked if they wouldn't mind interviewing Josh. Then my dad called me to tell me he might have overstepped his bounds. Josh didn't mind, interviewing is always good practice if nothing else. So Josh got a call and off he went for an interview mid October. We weren't thinking a ton of it, but then it kept turning into more. One interview turned into two, which turned into 3, and always meeting the higher ups. They all loved Josh (who doesn't?) and wanted to bring him on. We were originally told that after the Christmas (2012) holiday they would be presenting an offer. Then after the holidays we were told it would be after the first of the year. Then after not hearing anything we learned that people had been out sick, on business trips, etc. You name it, we heard it. Things were delayed. We were frustrated, but we had no idea it would be another year! (And at this point I was pregnant and could see my job coming to a close) By spring 2013 Josh was told that the company was actually going to be moving offices, and the moving was taking priority, understandably. So the move was in May 2013, and we were told to wait 2-3 months for things to get settled and for the budgets to be figured out. We tried to forget about it, but ya right! Josh was getting so much positive info from his (now) boss, the sales manager who wanted to bring him on so badly, but really wasn't the one in control of being able to do so. I felt a little bad that he kept promising and then not being able to deliver, but still frustrated that it happened so much. By August 2013 things were moving slowly again and we were waiting for more retirements and the meetings continued with Josh checking out the new facility and meeting with some higher ups again. Promising. By the end of 2013 we were told Josh's salary was in the budget for 2014 and to expect an offer after the first of the year. Sure, we've heard that before. By March 2014 and still no offer Josh suddenly got a call to come out and meet. He did of course, and was told to expect an offer in a couple days. And HE GOT ONE! It was amazing to finally have them come through, everyone in the hiring process was finally on the same page. They wanted him to come back out, and kept calling and actually moved the process along quicker than originally planned. They told him if he needed to give notice at his job to do so. (Of course he didn't need to give notice, that's not really how they do things) So he got an offer on Thursday, accepted it, and gave notice at his office by Friday. He took Monday and Tuesday the next week off, and started Wednesday, March 19th. Phew, long story!
So, Josh is now a salesman at Craftsman Label out in Clackamas, right by the Costco. It's a company I've known for as long as I can remember as my dad worked there was I was little, and Kaye too. So far Josh is really liking it. He gets to get out of the office and talk to people, not just sit at his desk all day like he's done for the last almost 8 years. I went out to the office yesterday as they wanted some fresh photos of the new facility for a campaign for a customer and Josh of course recommended me. It's a nice new building, and while Josh took the girls for lunch I snapped away. Then his boss stopped to chat with me, and just went on and on about how happy he is with Josh so far. He said how he's so reserved most of the time but then when he goes on a call he is persistent and very hard working. He loves that he is young as he pointed out a lot of the others working there are not so much in the young category and they are wanting to build the future of the company. It's only been a month, but it's nice to see the potential and actually see a future in a company (especially with me still being at home with the girls as my prospects are slim to non existent).
Now the girls can grow up thinking dad works in the sticker business and get stickers all the time. (Sam already got two yesterday on her visit)
